Research and community service (P2M) activities carried out at the Faculty of Agriculture are an inseparable part of the research and community service programs conducted at the university level through the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M). Funding for P2M activities at the Faculty of Agriculture comes from various sources. In general, there are three groups of P2M funding, namely: (i) the Decentralized Research Program; (ii) the National Competitive Grant Research Program (DIKTI, LIPI, and the Ministry of Research and Technology); and (iii) the Collaborative Research Program Scheme with the central government (ministries/agencies), state-owned enterprises, companies, foreign donor institutions, and others.
The research and community service themes carried out by the Faculty of Agriculture are in line with the flagship research theme of the Agro-complex discipline cluster (Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, and Faculty of Forestry). As stated in the 2020-2024 Hasanuddin University Research Strategic Plan, the flagship research theme for the agro-complex cluster is “Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Resource Optimization through Specific and Environmentally Friendly Technology.” The flagship agro-complex research theme consists of four sub-themes: 1) Optimization of Tropical Agricultural Systems; 2) Ecosystem-based Management of Coastal and Marine Resources; 3) Optimization of Local Resources for National Animal Food Security; 4) Management of Community Forests in the Wallacea Region as a Life Support System. Based on these sub-themes, the Faculty of Agriculture focuses on the theme “Optimization of Tropical Agricultural Systems.”
P2M at the Faculty of Agriculture is carried out in groups, whose members may come from the same discipline (one department) or across departments and faculties; through this group system, every lecturer participates in P2M activities. The Faculty of Agriculture contributes significantly to P2M activities, both through Unhas internal grant schemes and DIKTI grants.
In addition to funding from Unhas internal grants and DIKTI grants, the Faculty of Agriculture also carries out P2M activities through collaboration schemes with various parties, including ministries/agencies, regional governments, state-owned enterprises, private companies, and international institutions. This is reflected in the substantial amount of research funding through collaboration schemes each year.
Through the P2M activities organized by the Faculty of Agriculture, the faculty is positioned as a fairly productive faculty in producing scientific publications, whether in the form of journals, proceedings, or intellectual property rights (IPR). As of 2022, the number of IPRs held by the Faculty of Agriculture reached 46, consisting of 43 patents, 2 industrial designs, and 1 copyright.
At the local level, the Faculty has established research collaborations with all regencies/cities in South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi Provinces. At the regional level, with provinces across Eastern Indonesia, and at the national level with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, as well as agencies and banks such as LIPI, LAPAN, BATAN, and BIG (Geospatial Information Agency), Bank Indonesia (BI), and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
