Senate Meeting of the Faculty of Agriculture, Unhas, Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Discusses Cooperation between the Faculty of Agriculture and the Government

Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University held a senate meeting in the framework of the Gathering of the Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Province, Reading of the Draft Speech of the Prospective Professor, and the Ratification of the elected Head of Study Program. The activity took place on the 2nd floor of the Faperta Assembly Room starting at 10.00 WITA until finished, Wednesday (22/1).

Prof. Dr. Ir. Itji Diana Daud, M.S as the Chairperson of the Senate of the Faculty of Agriculture expressed her deepest appreciation for the presence of the Acting Governor of South Sulawesi, Dr. Ir. Fadjry Djufry, M.Si at the senate meeting. She hopes that the presence of the Acting Governor can provide input and become an extension of the government in discussing agricultural problems currently being faced by Indonesia, especially in South Sulawesi.

Dr. Ir. Fadjry Djufry revealed that the target of food self-sufficiency is a challenge for the Ministry of Agriculture, especially due to the current post-disaster situation. All stakeholders are expected to be part of the performance indicators if they encounter food problems in the field.

He further emphasized that if there is food production that does not reach the target, continuous evaluation must be carried out. The government’s greatest hope is that this year food production can be increased to 1 million tons. Therefore, there must be breakthroughs and innovations to achieve the arrangement of planting index planting schedules including the technology needed to increase production in South Sulawesi.

“I see our condition since the flood disaster last December has indeed slightly disrupted the water sources that we have, which has an impact on reducing the distribution of clean water in several food centers in Indonesia. As a result, cooperation with various parties is indeed needed, especially with educational institutions such as the Unhas Campus,” he said.

The Acting Governor continued that his hope is that the mentoring from the professors of the Faculty of Agriculture can encourage farmers not to lose heart after being given adequate agricultural knowledge. The government will try to help in terms of procuring the required technology.

“It is hoped that all empty land can be productive. The government provides seeds and fertilizers including supervision. Our hope is that if institutions such as the Faculty of Agriculture support, with the facilities and infrastructure provided, the government can make our targets faster,” he said.
