The Master of Agrotechnology study program is here to answer the challenges of the agricultural world in the future in the development of continuous agricultural technology science and innovation in the context of increasing production, improving product quality, product economic value, and production process efficiency. This can be achieved through the provision of professional, reliable, and competent Human Resources in the field of Agricultural Science and Technology, especially in the fields of agronomy, plant biotechnology (agro-biotechnology), soil science, and crop protection, with a specialization in engineering tropical plant cultivation technology and alternative food.
The Master of Agrotechnology study program as a monodisciplinary study program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) was first proposed to be formed to DIKTI in 2012 by the Rector of Hasanuddin University (Prof. Idrus Patturusi) and the Chairman of Commission 1 of the Senate for Academic Affairs (Prof. Dr. H. M. Noor Jalaluddin, MS.) as a master of agronomy.
On February 17, 2014, the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture issued a mandate letter number 148 / E.E2 / DT / 2014 concerning the assignment of the implementation of the Agrotechnology master’s program to Hasanuddin University, which was followed by a decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia number 310 / E / O / 2014 on August 12, 2014 with regard to the permit for the implementation of the Agrotechnology Masters Study Program. So that the admission of the first batch of students starts in the First Semester of the 2014/2015 Academic Year.
The monodisciplinary study program of the Master of Agrotechnology is a study program that is included in the Applied Science Cluster. This field of science includes, among others, Agronomy, Soil Science, and Plant Pest and Disease Science. Related to other fields of science, the development of the field of Agrotechnology studies is supported by the fields of Basic Sciences, including Biological Sciences, Organic Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Statistical Sciences. On the other hand, this monodisciplinary study program supports other applied disciplines, such as Agribusiness, Regional Development Planning, Natural Resource Management, and Conservation.
To become a center for education, research, development, and application of competent, competitive and professional science and technology-based science and technology in the field of Agrotechnology while still paying attention to environmental sustainability and cultural values of the Indonesian maritime continent that can solve problems and develop agriculture with an independence-based approach.
The mono-disciplinary study program Master of Agrotechnology prepares human resources who are reliable, broad-minded, critical, ethical, able to analyze and solve agricultural science and technology problems with strategic thinking, and be able to integrate various concepts of science, technology and management to take part in sustainable agricultural development. In managing human resources and increasing the competitiveness of the nation, its management is aligned with competency groups of enthusiasts, namely
1). Actors in agriculture,
2). Managers (planner, designer, organizer, evaluator, mediator),
3). Entrepreneurs (entrepreneur, initiator, adapter, cooperator),
4). Researchers,
5). Educator (facilitator, motivator and mediator).
