The Unhas Faculty of Agriculture, through the Department of Agricultural Technology, held an international conference with the title, “The 2nd Unhas International Conference on Agricultural Technology (UICAT).” Carrying the theme “Strengthening Agricultural Technology and Environmental Sustainability for Sovereignty, Security and Safety,” the activity took place starting at 08.00 WITA online via the zoom meeting, Wednesday (25/10).
Present as invited speech in the seminar, Prof. Hideyuki Ito (Okayama Prefectural University, Japan), Prof. Andi Dirpan, M.Sc., Ph.D (Hasanuddin University), Dr. Jarrod Kath (University of Southern Queensland, Australia), Ir. Satria Gentur Pinandita (PT. Ajinomoto, Indonesia), Prof. Sirichai Songsermpong (Kasetsart University, Thailand) and Prof. Stefan Strohmeier (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna Austria).
The activity began with the presentation of a report by Dr. Andi Nur Faidah. She said that around 500 participants would participate in this activity. Some will be discussed in the agricultural sector, especially agricultural technology. She did not forget to thank the participants for their participation in this activity. She hopes that the conference will provide benefits and contribute to solving problems related to the topics discussed.
On the same occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc in his speech said that this was an extraordinary opportunity to bring together scholars, experts and practitioners to discuss world issues. In accordance with the conference topic, food sovereignty and food security are the three most critical challenges facing the world today.
“With the population expected to reach 9.7 billion in 2050, food demand is increasing and this demand must be met with sustainable production through agricultural technology to ensure there is enough food for everyone,” he said.
The activity was officially opened by the Deputy Rector for Partnerships, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship and Business, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil. For him, the conference is a meeting place for academics, researchers and key stakeholders to create a platform to achieve the desired discussions.
“The gathering of these experts is a milestone in our collective journey towards more sustainable agriculture. “The contributions of all attendees will greatly enrich the quality of this conference and instill fresh research ideas and scientific information,” he added.
The activity continued with presentation of material by the speakers. UICAT 2023 ran smoothly for two days.
