The Center of Excellence (CoE) Faculty of Agriculture Unhas together with Taiwan ICDF, CGIAR, and IRRI held an international based workshop with the title,“Digital Knowledge and Tools for Precision Farming.” The activity will last for 4 days starting from 31 July to 3 August 2023 in a hybrid manner (online/offline) and can be watched live on the YouTube channel of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University (31/7).
Inviting expert speakers from various countries, the workshop was intended as a forum for sharing knowledge and the use of digital technology in increasing precision in the agricultural sector. By implementing more digital technology in agriculture, farmers no longer need to do everything manually.
Yi Cheng Huang, as specialist of Taiwan ICDF said that weather stations had been installed at 9 locations throughout South Sulawesi. The weather stations prepared are different, from data collection, analysis to equipment system installation.
“Current smart technology really helps farmers, especially in providing timely information,” he added.
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc said that from the start the use of this technology had been programmed and this had to be done. Direct field visits also received a good response from farmers.
“By directly involving farmers, they can feel that by implementing the SOP provided, the results will be better. By involving directly, farmers will have more trust compared to having to patronize them,” he explained.
The workshop continued with the presentation of various materials related to digital technology in agriculture. The activity will be carried out over 4 days with the material presented in rotation offline and online.
