Hasanuddin University Faculty of Agriculture Holds International Conference, Discussing Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture

Hasanuddin University’s Faculty of Agriculture is again holding an international conference entitled “The 4th International Conference on Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in the Tropics.” Discussing food security and sustainable agriculture, the activity lasted for two days virtually through a zoom meeting, Wednesday-Thursday (15-16/2/2023).

On that occasion, the Chancellor of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, SP., M.Si was present as the Keynote Speaker. The other speakers, namely, Prof. Hasil Sembiring (IRRI, Indonesia), Dr. Tony Liwang (BPDP-KS, Indonesia), Dr. Thong Nguyen-Huy (The University of Southern Queensland, Australia), Prof. Bunyamin Tar’an (University of Saskatchewan, Canada), Prof. Sikstus Gusli (Hasanuddin University, Indonesia), Dr. Didier Lesueur (International Center for Tropical Agriculture, France), Prof. Siti Kusujiarti (Warren Wilson College, USA), Dr. Inamullah Khan (The University of Agriculture, Pakistan), and Dr. Anwar Syed H. Rizvi (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service USDA, USA).

Muhammad Junaid, SP., MP., Ph.D as the head of the organizers gave a report regarding the holding of the international conference. He said that the holding of an international conference was welcomed by various groups and was considered important given the many phenomena that cause food spoilage today.

“We really appreciate all the contributors, the conference committee who have worked hard, the sponsors, and the honorable guest speakers who have made this conference possible to be held today,” said Junaid.

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke In his speech expressed his gratitude to the speakers who will present material related to their respective areas of expertise. He hopes that with many areas of expertise, new solutions can be identified together so that they can contribute to agriculture and food security.

“During the next two days, we will have the opportunity to engage in stimulating discussions, share innovative ideas and explore new, unexplored research. Since we come from different backgrounds, let’s embrace the diversity of ideas and perspectives that each of us brings to this forum,” explained Prof. Salengke.

Prof Salengke also said that the international conference could present a unique opportunity to collaborate and learn from each other. In addition to expanding connections and increasing knowledge about food security issues currently being faced.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc as Chancellor of Hasanuddin University on the same occasion also gave a speech and officially opened the event. He welcomed all participants and resource persons who participated in the conference.

The man who is often called Prof. JJ said that the conference was a challenge in itself, especially because it involved academics, researchers, policy makers, and important parties. It is hoped that the issues discussed can be resolved together, especially the issue of food security and sustainable agriculture.

“You presentation will significantly enrich the quality of this conference and properly provide new research ideas and scientific information to all attendants and participants,” said Prof JJ.

The activity was followed by presentation of material by resource persons who were present both in person and online. The activity, which was attended by participants from various countries, is scheduled to last until next Thursday.
