Syngenta Indonesia in the context of a visit to the campus, collaborated with the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University in organizing seminars related to new innovations in the agricultural sector accompanied by technological developments and community modernization. Located on the 1st floor of the Faperta Unhas Hall, the seminar which was attended by active students to agricultural alumni was held on Tuesday morning, at 9.00 WITA until it was completed (30/8/2022).

The company, which is actively a global producer of seeds and pesticides, chose the Unhas campus not without intent. The purpose of holding this activity is to bridge the cooperation between the Faculty of Agriculture Unhas and Syngenta Indonesia.

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc welcomed the intention of Syngenta Indonesia, especially when Syngenta Indonesia offers job opportunities for agricultural graduates and internships for active students.

“I think this is a very good opportunity so that later if there are students who want internships or Unhas agricultural alumni who want to work at Syngenta, it will be easier for them,” said Prof. Salengke

He also saw visionary solutions that could be developed in the next ten to twenty years if agriculture is managed innovatively with knowledge and technology utilization. He is optimistic that optimal management can overcome the current problems.

“Hopefully our activities today can give us an idea of what kind of opportunities exist, which can be done to help agriculture not only in South Sulawesi, but also in Indonesia,” he added before officially opening the activity.

Head of Business Sustainability, Midzon L I Johannis revealed that the agricultural sector is the oldest sector and the farmer profession is the oldest profession on the face of the earth. According to him, anyone can have any profession, but it is the agricultural sector that prepares food for them. That is the importance of the agricultural and peasant sector.

Nevertheless, Midzon showed concern for the current agricultural problems. An example of a current agricultural problem is the reduction of agricultural land, so it must increase the productivity of limited land and agricultural land that has to adjust to a very low climate due toclimate change caused byglobal warming.

“Mr. prof said earlier that in the next decades the earth’s population will reach 9 billion people, currently it is 8 billion people. Now that many houses, shophouses, embankments, housing and farmland are shrinking so let’s build an ideology to increase the productivity of these fewer and fewer resources,” Midzon said.

Therefore, through the “Syngenta Goes to Campus” program, Midzon wants agricultural graduates and prospective graduates not to think that agricultural graduates will only work in a small area, he invites them to form a mindset that agricultural graduates work to support the food needs of the world community. Furthermore, Midzon explained about how the Syngenta company works, overproduction, to the research support facilities they have.

“We want the world to grow in a sustainable way, we want to collaborate with anyone to build agriculture in the world. The goal is to improve the food welfare of farmers,” he said again.

Letran Silalahi asHead of Human Resourcesat Syngenta Indonesia, believes that agricultural graduates can take agriculture in a better direction with a note that they must be able to work well as individuals and as a team.

He added that Syngenta as one of the largest agribusiness companies in the world and has a presence in 100 countries requires diverse talents, be it diverse in terms of understanding, experience, and knowledge without being restricted by gender.

“This is one of our projects, how can we produce quality young talents with more and more agricultural equipment that can be used and developed,” said Letran.

The purpose of holding the activity, according to Letran, is so that young agricultural graduates can join Syngenta, together to address problems in the agricultural sector globally and prepare them to become leaders of the agricultural sector in the future.
