Located on the 1st floor of the Faperta Unhas Hall, the seminar which was attended by active students to agricultural alumni was held on Tuesday morning, at 9.00 WITA until it was completed (30/8/2022). The company, which is actively a global producer of seeds and pesticides, chose the Unhas campus not without intent. The purpose of holding this activity is to bridge the cooperation between the Faculty of Agriculture Unhas and Syngenta Indonesia. Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc welcomed the intention of Syngenta Indonesia, especially when Syngenta Indonesia offers job opportunities for agricultural graduates and internships for active students. Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Unhas (Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc) “I think this is a very good opportunity so that later if there are students who want internships or Unhas agricultural alumni who want to work at Syngenta, it will be easier for them,” said Prof. Salengke He also saw visionary solutions that could be developed in the next ten to twenty years if agriculture is managed innovatively with knowledge and technology utilization. He is optimistic that optimal management can overcome the current problems. “Hopefully our activities today can give us an idea of what kind of opportunities exist, which can be done to help agriculture not only in South Sulawesi, but also in Indonesia,” he added before officially opening the activity. Head of Business Sustainability, Midzon L I Johannis revealed that the agricultural sector is the oldest sector and the farmer profession is the oldest profession on the face of the earth. According to him, anyone can have any profession, but it is the agricultural sector that prepares food for them. That is the importance of the agricultural and peasant sector. Nevertheless, Midzon showed concern for the current agricultural problems. An example of a current agricultural problem is the reduction of agricultural land, so it must increase the productivity of limited land and agricultural land that has to adjust to a very low climate due toclimate change caused byglobal warming. “Mr. prof said earlier that in the next decades the earth’s population will reach 9 billion people, currently it is 8 billion people. Now that many houses, shophouses, embankments, housing and farmland are shrinking so let’s build an ideology to increase the productivity of these fewer and fewer resources,” Midzon said. Therefore, through the “Syngenta Goes to Campus” program, Midzon wants agricultural graduates and prospective graduates not to think that agricultural graduates will only work in a small area, he invites them to form a mindset that agricultural graduates work to support the food needs of the world community. Furthermore, Midzon explained about how the Syngenta company works, overproduction, to the research support facilities they have. “We want the world to grow in a sustainable way, we want to collaborate with anyone to build agriculture in the world. The goal is to improve the food welfare of farmers,” he said again. Letran Silalahi asHead of Human Resourcesat Syngenta Indonesia, believes that agricultural graduates can take agriculture in a better direction with a note that they must be able to work well as individuals and as a team. He added that Syngenta as one of the largest agribusiness companies in the world and has a presence in 100 countries requires diverse talents, be it diverse in terms of understanding, experience, and knowledge without being restricted by gender. “This is one of our projects, how can we produce quality young talents with more and more agricultural equipment that can be used and developed,” said Letran. The purpose of holding the activity, according to Letran, is so that young agricultural graduates can join Syngenta, together to address problems in the agricultural sector globally and prepare them to become leaders of the agricultural sector in the future. Carrying the theme “Unhasku for the People,” the activity was held at the Multipurpose Building, Maros Regency on Thursday (25/8/2022). Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc as the Chairman of this year’s Anniversary Committee revealed that a series of community service activities in Maros Regency have been carried out from June to August. There are 34 community services that have been carried out and involved more than 100 Unhas lecturers. “Last week we have carried out mass Moringa planting activities, the number we brought from Unhas was around 1500 Moringa sticks, although the rector actually suggested 10,000 at least,” he said. According to Prof. Salengke, the purpose of community service is to encourage people to be more enthusiastic in taking advantage of opportunities, such as the opportunity to process Moringa for the benefit of household health and even economic interests whenever possible. He also said that the service activities that have been carried out before will show off the results of their work during the activities. “In the morning, there will also be demonstrations on how to produce healthy food that can be implemented by the community. Later our team, the Faculty of Agriculture will conduct a demosnration. In addition, the team from Nursing will do a screening back there. It is aimed at children from relatives’ families,” he added. Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc in his speech also labeled Maros as one of the favored districts in Sulawesi. He argued that Maros is a buffer for Makassar so that Unhas, local governments, and the community should work together to take advantage of Maros’ geography, geopolitics, geoeconomics, and natural resources (SDA). “Maros from the sea to the coast exists, from rice fields to mountains exists, so Maros is indeed a paradise for people who want to build a civilized civilization, which is modern but also with a healthy, strong, and prosperous society, of course peace-loving,” he said. Prof. Jamaluddin assured that community service is the first step that can be a great benefit for the community. He also revealed that the Minister had asked Unhas to coordinate food supply in the Sulawesi region. “Although in Sulawesi we will not be short of food in the near future, but we hope that Sulawesi will become a national solution. If necessary, we help countries that are close to Sulawesi and if necessary Maros is one of the areas that we excel in supporting world food security because there is currently climate change. Climate change causes various problems in crops but with the science, technology, and information developed by agricultural friends, hopefully in this Dies Natalis activity, it can provide solutions related to the food faced,” he added optimistically. H.A.S Chaidir Syam, S.IP., M.H as the Regent of Maros Regency expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in community service in Maros Regency. One of the community services that concerns him is the use of Moringa leaves as nutritional fulfillment to prevent stunting carried out the previous week. The hope is that after the counseling conducted by Unhas, the problem of stunting in Maros Regency the following year can be reduced, even if possible to get out of the red zone. “We hope to establish cooperation, mutually beneficial relationships, provide this information to each other so that it continues to be established. moreover, the distance between Hasanuddin University and Maros Regency is very close. This is our hope in the future,” explained the regent who is also an alumnus of Unhas. Before ending the activity, a symbolic signing of cooperation between Unhas and the Maros Regency Office was carried out to continue and present programs that can be a solution to various problems in the community. Invited guests who attended the activity were also welcome to visit the booths of community service products that had been prepared. Back Next

Organic Agriculture Training, Realization Towards a Tourism Alley Based on Organic Agriculture

Organic Agriculture Training, Realization Towards a Tourism Alley Based on Organic Agriculture Makassar – The Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Service in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University held an “Organic Agriculture Training” to provide education and training in developing the capacity of Human Resources (HR). The Faculty of Agriculture has a role as a facilitator in providing knowledge related to organic agriculture to the staff of the Makassar City Agriculture Office as well as to representatives of all sub-districts in Makassar City, Friday-Saturday (12-13/8/2022). The Organic Agriculture Training, which is being attended directly by Evy Aprialti, SE., MM, Head of Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Service (DP2), is anticipated to be able to actualize a number of projects that the city government wishes to undertake. Evy believes that Makassar City’s alleys have the potential to become into tourist attractions. Dr. Muhammad Fuad Anshori, who on that occasion also delivered material related to organic planting materials, viewed that this training was a form of Unhas’ dedication to the people of Makassar City in optimizing community welfare in the concept of tourist alleys induced by the Makassar City Government. “This activity is a collaboration with the Makassar City Government through the Department of Fisheries and Agriculture in optimizing the potential of alleyways through organic farming-based urban farming,” he continued. The participation of the Faculty of Agriculture in the certification of organic farming competencies that was conducted by the Organic Certification Institute in Jakarta and Bogor the previous year, according to Dr. Ir. Abd. Haris Bahrun, M.Si, is the implementation of the Faculty of Agriculture’s contribution as a facilitator. The result of the two parties cooperating in its implementation is a tourist area based on organic agriculture. Dr. Abd Haris further stated that the goal of the organic farming program was to establish horticultural agriculture using a hydroponic system in the alleys of Makassar City. Utilization of organic farming is considered important for Dr. Abd Haris especially when looking at it from a long-term perspective: “This is quite important because in the future, the national and international markets will demand agriculture that is free of pesticides, free of insecticides, and free of excessive fertilization. So really the risk is less and the chemical is reduced. Additionally, it covers the implementation of CSA (Climate Smart Agriculture) or environmentally sound agriculture,” he continued. Back Next
