“With this program it is hoped that one hectare can produce approximately 265 million. One hectare is the same as 2,000 trees, 1 tree is approximately 20 kilos,” he said.

The next speech was given by the Rector of Unhas, Prof. Jamaluddin

Meanwhile Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc as Chancellor of Unhas said that this activity could be a significant step to strengthen the agricultural sector. Furthermore, Bahtiar as Acting Governor of South Sulawesi expressed his pride and gratitude for the good collaboration between Unhas and the South Sulawesi Provincial Government. He stated that this program could minimize fruit imports in Indonesia considering the strength of South Sulawesi’s natural resources.

Bahtiar considers that this activity is a form of strengthening the agricultural sector through the cultivation of Cavendish bananas. This can be seen from the collaboration between universities, government and society in achieving common goals.

“The provincial government is ready to help with everything needed to make this program a success, so I have high hopes for all parties involved,” explained Bahtiar.

After continuing the signing of the cooperation agreement between Unhas and the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, a symbolic planting of banana seedlings was carried out. The series of activities ran smoothly until 12:30 p.m. He said that in accordance with the theme, every Dies Natalis celebration should be used as a momentum to renew many things, one of which is the commitment to achieve the University’s targets.

“We want Unhas to be able to contribute again, Unhas to be present in the community, Unhas to provide solutions, but all of that is impossible if we are not united,” added Prof. Jamaluddin. On the same occasion, he also revealed that the slogan “Unhas bersatu” (Unhas united) was deliberately created so that the spirit of unity would be much stronger than before, especially when faced with external factors such as the COVID-19 situation, which has not subsided even though it is much better than before.

Before the event ended, Prof. Jamaluddin officially launched the 66th Anniversary logo, which depicts a phinisi boat sailing across the ocean with the globe in the background. The event closed with the release of 66 doves as a symbolic gesture of the 66th Anniversary celebration
