








The Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Hasanuddin University, successfully hosted the 5th International Conference on Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in the Tropics, with the topic “Regenerative Agriculture for Sustainable Food Production and Environmental Restoration,” featuring various experts in their respective fields. The conference took place over two days, both online and offline, from October 29-30, 2025.
Present as invited speakers include, Prof. Siti Subandiyah (Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia), Prof. Mahmoud F Seleiman (King Saud University, Saudi Arabia), Mr. Liu Hung-Tse (Group Gain Bio-Agri o, Taiwan), Prof. Busige Nishantha (University of Colombo, Sri Lanka), Prof. Damayanti Buchori (IPB University, Indonesia), Dr. Silke Stober (Humboldt-Universitat, Germany), Prof. Dr. Ir. Rusnadi Padjung, M.Sc (Hasanuddin University, Indonesia), and Ir. Mukhlis Bahrainy (Pachira Group, Indonesia).
The event was officially opened by Unhas Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, who considered the conference crucial given the increasingly pressing challenges facing agriculture that require collective action. He expressed his appreciation for the scientists who are striving to find solutions for humanity.
“In 2050, the population will rise to 10 billion, that means it is our responsibility here in this room to play a part to also contribute to solving the future problem. This is what we call ineffaceable challenges and potential big problems,” he explained.
Responding to these concerns, Prof. JJ expressed his gratitude as a university leader to the scientists from various global institutions who collaborate with Unhas scientists. Unhas will fully commit to and contribute to addressing local, national, and international issues.
On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rismaneswati, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University, expressed her appreciation for the enthusiasm of the speakers and participants who contributed to the smooth running of the conference.
“I would like to congratulate and thank the Executive Chair of the FSSAT 2025 IC and all the teams involved. I hope this two-day conference will run smoothly and that we can all achieve objective results,” she said before concluding his remarks.
