Saleh Ali, M.Sc (Unhas), Prof. Yoshio Kawamura (Japan), Dr. Arif Satria, SP, M.Si (IPB), and Prof. Dr. Mohd. Nizam A.B. Rahman (Malaysia).
“The reason for raising the political ecology of food security as the theme of this conference is the important role of the agricultural sector in the sustainability of life and the achievement of goals in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Agr. Sc. Ir. Baharuddin in his speech.
Prof. Baharuddin explained that the agricultural sector is the backbone that is a fundamental component in the sustainability of life, so it certainly requires a guarantee of food security which is the primary human need.
Through the ICEF forum, it will discuss what aspects are of importance, especially in relation to the implementation and achievement of the goals of the SDGs.
Before officially opening the ICEF forum, the Vice Chancellor for Resource Planning and Finance Prof. Donations Baja explained that, at least there are several challenges faced related to food safety and several papers have discussed these challenges.
“I have read several papers submitted at this conference and I think today can be a forum for exchanging ideas regarding the political ecology of food security. The topics raised also touched on several goals contained in the SDGs, such as No Poverty, Good Health and Well Being , Quality Education, Gender Equality, Climate Exchange, and Life on Land, “explained Prof. Dr. Ir. Steel Donation,
These challenges are related to SDGs, for example Life on Land (Land Ecosystem) where the activities that should take place should be related to agriculture.
But lately, many activities other than agriculture, such as infrastructure development, housing, or those related to industry, have resulted in an imbalance between agricultural and non-agricultural activities.
This challenge, he said, certainly requires a solution, at least a food security that must be guaranteed between regions. This could be one of the topics of discussion at today’s conference.
Furthermore, Prof. The donation also explained that Unhas is one of the leading universities in the field of research and innovation. This was marked by the awarding of the Widyapadhi award from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education related to innovation management.
